With the summer holidays starting there was a very limited timetable of events this week in the running calendar.
Friday 9th July saw Downpatrick host the NI and Ulster Championships 5km races. Ballydrain were represented in all 3 races of the evening. The short 7 and a half laps were ideal for spectating and produced some high class racing from a field of local talent.
Race 1 got things underway with 67 participants and was won by Neil Young in a time of 20:14 with Ballydrain’s Chris Cleary coming in at 23:38 to finish 29th.
Race 2 saw 88 runners toe the line and saw Gary Mulligan cross the line first in 16:42 with Ballydrain’s Luke Wallace, after a period of broken training, coming in at 19:16 to finish 60th.
Race 3 saw 77 participants battle it out with Gavin Corey crossing first in 14:42. Ballydrain’s Matthew Carville managed to get into a group running at his pace but just missed out on a PB coming in at 16:25 to finish 53rd. This was 50 seconds quicker than Matthew’s last outing at Mary Peters Track on 8th May!
The overall team competition on the night was won by Annadale Striders, followed by Victoria Park and Connswater AC in 2nd and East Down AC in 3rd place. Congratulations to all the teams on the evening!
As training starts again under appropriate restrictions, Ballydrain Harriers would extend a warm welcome to new members wishing to join our friendly, welcoming club. For more info contact Ballydrain.firstname.lastname@example.org.
