This weekend Ballydrain Harriers were tackling two different but equally challenging events. The first event was the Gaithouse Events Compare NI Florida Manor 6/12/24 hour Challenge where competitors had to run as many of the 5k mixed terrain lap as possible in their chosen time. Dovydas Pliauga and Simon Moffett both completed 10 laps (30 miles) in a time of 5:06:50 and 6:23:21 respectively. Meanwhile Catherine Miskelly, not long after an incredible 112 miles at Last One Standing, made a late decision to enter the Florida Manor 24-hour challenge. Catherine managed to run an incredible 35 laps (106 miles) in a time of 23:51:26 coming in 2nd overall and 1st lady. Well done Catherine, what a fantastic performance! Neville McGroarty took the overall first place after completing 37 laps/112 miles in 23:17:17. Congratulations to Catherine, Neville and all those who took part.

Meanwhile up the coast in Ballygalley, five Harriers were taking part in the 2nd Annual Cairncastle Fell Race, the first race of the NIMRA Mountain Running Championship. The event covers more than 10 miles and takes in 2200 feet of climbing. The race began in Ballygalley and took the runners along road and farm track before heading across the fells to the face of Knockdhu. From the summit the runners headed along the edge of Sallagh Brae, where on a good day you should be able to see Scotland, followed by a tricky descent to the valley floor before climbing again along the Antrim Hills way towards the final summit at Scawt Hill. The course then finished on a downhill towards the shoreline and Ballygalley Castle. Mark Dugan completed the course in 1:33:32, coming in 1st in the M50 category and 46th overall. Nathan Lilly finished in 1st place (112th overall) in the MU23 in a time of 1:56:53. Graham Hill (1:39:04), Debbie Mingout (1:58:47) and Jonathan Lilly (2:10:26) and put in super performances, finishing in 54th, 119th and 129th positions, with Debbie taking 3rd in FV45.

Well done to all those taking part this weekend.
