It was a quieter week racing-wise for Ballydrain this week, although plenty of members were putting in the long runs over the weekend for their London and Belfast marathon training.
On a frosty Saturday 2 February 2019 it was time for the 7th race in Born to Run’s winter race series Run Forest Run. The event was held in the historic 400-year-old Antrim Castle Gardens close to Antrim town centre. 261 runners took on the 5k race and 627 the 10k; the 5k race was ran mainly in the Gardens and the 10k took in the Gardens and the ruins of Shanes Castle. Ballydrain Junior member Kyle Ross continues to dominate the 5k race series with another win in a time of 18:27. Debbie Mingout and Violet Davidson were competing in the 10k race which was won by Mark Smith (Mallusk Harriers) in 34:45. Debbie was pleased to finish in 45:55 and Violet in 1:06:40.
Francis Boal was representing Ballydrain in Moira at City of Lisburn Athletic Club’s annual cross-country race. Francis was competing in the 4.5k Vets race and crossed the line in a time of 22:22.
23,000 participants took to the streets of London on Sunday 3 February for the London Winter 10k, including Ballydrain Harriers Anne and Trevor McClurg and Denise Davison. Starting at Trafalgar Square the race was run on the roads in the heart of the Capital and finished just before Westminster. All three enjoyed their run and completed in: Anne 52:34; Trevor 53:09; and Denise 53:39.
